Aldi is known for having great deals on a lot of things. However, it’s not a perfect spot to save money on your entire list of household needs. In fact, there are several places you should be shopping if you want to really save money. Here are 13 household items never to buy at Aldi. Save these for other places you shop, like specialty stores or bulk stores like Sam’s and Costco.
Paper Products
Aldi is not known for having cheap paper products; FOr things like paper plates, toilet paper, and paper towels, consider shopping at bulk stores. You will need a place to store some of your products, but you’ll save a lot of money. Start breaking your list into sections to ensure you save money throughout.
Chicken
Chicken is a no-go at Aldi. This isn’t actually because of the price. It’s because of the quality of the chicken. We are all for saving money. However, it's not worth it if you have to spend extensive time cleaning a chicken. It also makes you wonder what the process was like in obtaining this chicken.
Brand Name Goods
The whole point of purchasing products at Aldi is to expose yourself to new brands. You may find some smaller manufacturers and brands outside of the norm. If you know you will stick to your usual brand-name goods, other stores offer better deals through sales and promotions. Shop for Aldi’s brand to save the most and benefit.
Produce
If you purchase produce at Aldi, get ready to spend some time searching for quality. The overall quality of the Aldi produce is hit or miss from one location to the next. Make sure you are also ready to eat this food because they are known to ripen very quickly.
Soda
Some of the Aldi brand products are good. However, the soda is known for being just a little off. If you care about your soda and are particular about it, make sure to purchase it somewhere else. If you have a birthday party and just need to purchase something that qualifies as soda, the Aldi brand can work.
Deodorant
Aldi does not have its own brand of deodorant. When you run into situations like this at Aldi, it’s best to skip it and purchase that product somewhere else. The name-brand products are just priced higher in Aldi, and you can get a better deal in other locations.
Kitty Litter
It may surprise you, but the best place to buy kitty litter is usually the pet store. The kitty litter at Aldi is just not all that well-performing. People have complained about the dust, clumping, and even the smell of it. Skip it and get this at the pet store.
Toothbrushes
If you want the best deal on toothbrushes, get them from a bulk store. The stores will offer you better pricing, and you’ll be stocked up for the year. It’s kind of nice to have a stockpile of toothbrushes so you can trade them out more often or offer them to the company if needed.
Specialty Cheeses
If you are serious about your cheeses, the Aldi selection may not suit your needs. Go to a higher-end grocery store if you are looking for a larger selection and some additional quality in the cheeses you eat.
Electronics
Aldi sells electronics at a very attractive price point. However, this price point is part of the problem. If you are thinking the price of an electronic may look too good to be true, that’s because it probably is. The quality and longevity of Aldi electronics are not excellent.
Graham Crackers
Aldi has its own version of graham crackers, and they are not expensive. However, the flavor and durability of these graham crackers just don’t hold up. Many customers found their kids did not like them.
Yogurt
With so many yogurt companies in the market, competing from a flavor and consistency standpoint can be hard. If you try the Aldi yogurt, buy just one or two. While it can be good to throw into a recipe, eating it on its own is not the same as other brands.
Bakery Items
Finally, bakery items are the last thing at Aldi that you may want to avoid. The biggest issue with bakery items is their freshness. The bread and pastries seem to be getting a little older even when they are first offered to customers. If you shop daily, this may not be a problem, but for weekly shoppers, it presents some issues.
