It may seem like the lazy way out. Grab some food out of the fridge and chow down. It’s faster than reheating, and many can be enjoyed without even dirtying a plate! Hang out over the kitchen sink, and you’re good to go. But some people swear the foods on this list simply taste better cold than hot. Let us know whether you agree!
Frozen s’mores

Nothing beats s’mores by a campfire. Unless it’s s’mores straight out of the freezer? What?! The chocolaty, marshmallowy, graham goodness is an excellent ice-cold dessert. You’ll find recipes that use chocolate pudding, milk, marshmallow cream, Cool Whip, and cream cheese to make the perfectly even chocolate layer, but you can also slightly warm the chocolate and marshmallow on a layer of graham crackers, then squish with a top layer of graham cracker and freeze!
Coffee
That morning cup of caffeinated goodness can be even more delightful when served cold. Ice coffee is a popular drink, especially in the warmer months. Most of the time, ice coffee’s flavor profile is boosted with cream, sugar, and flavored syrup. And, of course, plenty of ice.
Apple Pie
The smell and taste of a fresh-baked apple pie hot out of the oven can’t be beat! Or can it? People who swear by eating the confection cold out of the fridge say it’s more satisfying and a more solid bite that way. A lot of people posting their hot vs. cold food opinions say any Thanksgiving pie tastes better the next day after it’s been refrigerated. There may be something to the fact that you’re finally hungry again the day after Thanksgiving.
Oatmeal
With the advent of overnight oats, oatmeal has gained popularity as a nutritious breakfast meant to be served cold. A lot of people prefer the creamy texture of oats that have been prepared with milk or cream and then left to soak overnight. Berries or bananas mixed in before refrigeration also have a nicer texture when served chilled.
Tea
Our English cousins really don’t get this, but in the U.S., iced tea reigns supreme! Serve it with one too many spoonfuls of sugar mixed in, and you’ve got the unofficial drink of the South. While hot tea is thought to be comforting, cold tea is refreshing and hits the spot on a hot summer day.
Spaghetti Sandwich
We don’t know who came up with this, but it’s a hidden culinary gem, according to many posters. Leftover garlic bread, topped with a nice layer of cold spaghetti, and voila! The starches lock the sauce in place, making a more solid offering than the hot version.
Rice
Many people will tell you you haven’t dined properly unless you’ve eaten cold rice. We’re not talking about rice pudding. Cold rice served with a hot entree is life-changing. There’s only one way to find out!
Hot dogs
A hot dog roasted over a fire or on the grill is popular. A large segment of people swear eating them uncooked and chilled in the fridge is the better way! Seems there’s be no difference between a cold hot dog and bologna, but it’s worth a shot. It’s certainly a time saver!
Meat
There’s something about refrigerating meat after it’s cooked and then eating it cold that seems to add a juiciness that fresh baked or fried meat lacks. The #1 cold meat meal has to be fried chicken. But grilled burgers or melt-in-your-mouth pork chops are also popular choices.
Tomato soup
You might say there’s a name for tomato soup served cold: gazpacho. No need to chop cucumbers, tomatoes, and peppers to create a cold gazpacho soup; you can just open a can of plain tomato soup. You can get a whole new taste sensation for less than a buck.
Cookie dough
This is probably the most undisputed item on this list. Whether mixing up a fresh batch for cookies or dipping into the little plastic log of premade dough, it’s yummy! Manufacturers now make cookie dough meant to be eaten cold and raw since traditional recipes contain raw eggs, which can make you sick.
Interestingly, most foods on this list must be cooked at some point in the preparation process. But these dishes are best served cold to enjoy the full flavor profile.
