Some people swear coffee can only be prepared with one method, or it’s improper. Others will take it cold, hot, on ice, or any other way. Are there certain foods that are supposed to be served fresh and hot that you prefer cold? This list came about because of an internet discussion where people argued whether foods like pizza or fried chicken could be eaten cold.
1. Leftover Thanksgiving Sandwiches
One person noted that while the classic American Thanksgiving dinner is “fine,” the leftover sandwiches are amazing. Another said they like making sandwiches with turkey, gravy, and cranberry sauce.
2. Pizza of (Mostly) Any Type
The most common food I think of that’s supposed to be served hot that people enjoy is pizza, which was one of the top answers. Someone said cold pizza is their favorite breakfast, and others discussed that certain types don’t hold up when eaten cold.
3. Pop Tarts
Although you may think of Pop-Tarts as a food that should be toasted, there were quite a few people who said they would never heat them up. In fact, one said, “I don’t know why people would actually put them in a toaster.”
4. Fried Chicken
The person who said fried chicken should be on this list added the caveat that they’d prefer it at room temperature. Others said certain fried chicken places taste better cold, like Zaxby’s. One person mentioned that they grew up “in a tiny southern USA town” where everyone ate cold fried chicken after church.
5. Lo Mein
As an avid noodle and Chinese food lover, I agree that lo mein is just as good when cold. One commenter stated that it’s their favorite breakfast/post-hangover food.
6. Frozen Waffles
A surprising number of people thought waffles should be eaten cold and frozen! One even joked, “I’ve got limited time on this earth; I’m not wasting it waiting on the toaster.”
7. Spaghetti and Lasagna
While I can’t agree that noodles with sauce in any form are better cold, I think many Italian food and dishes with tomato sauce are better in leftover form the next day. A suggestion was offered that eating your spaghetti cold but your garlic toast hot is the way to go.
8. Chili
The person who stated that they preferred chili cold felt the need to add that this was not meant as a joke, which made me laugh. Another commenter said they’d eat cold chili from the container with an open fridge door!
9. Box Made Stuffing
While I’ve never tried box stuffing cold, I have eaten a lot of leftover Thanksgiving food cold, and I can’t imagine it isn’t good. Perhaps you could try heating up another part of your leftovers and leave the stuffing cold to mix it up.
10. Pizza Lunchables
People needed clarification about heating up a Lunchable as a concept, even the pizza one. Now that I think about it, I don’t remember ever heating mine up as a kid.
