If there’s one thing you can count on, it’s change. People often get used to a fast food dish only to discover it’s been discontinued. There are many of these meals that people remember fondly and wish could be brought back. Unfortunately, that rarely happens.
KFC Double Down
This was a sandwich of sorts that had breaded chicken used as the buns. In between them were plenty of cheese and bacon. It was a great combination of crunchy and smooth. The two types of meat could satisfy anyone.
Bacon Pretzel Cheeseburger from Wendy’s
Pretzel buns have lately fallen out of fashion for the most part, so many of the sandwiches that were once made with them are not defunct. This sandwich has bacon on this cheeseburger with buns that were just the right texture for its fans.
McDonald’s Southern Style Chicken Sandwich
This sandwich ran for 10 years before it was discontinued. A simple chicken sandwich with pickles, it was a favorite for plenty of McDonald’s fans. The sandwich was so missed that the restaurant brought back a very similar sandwich called the McCrispy to take its place. But real fans know the difference.
Sonic’s Island Fire Burger
When you wanted a big hamburger and you wanted to make sure it was spicy, the Island Fire Burger was a go-to meal for many. It had beef patties along with both pepper jack and smoky cheddar cheeses. It also featured tomato, bacon, lettuce, and a habanero sauce that was both sweet and spicy.
Carl’s Jr. Banana Shake
Shakes are easy to find in chocolate, vanilla, etc., but not so easy in banana flavor. Carl’s Jr. once had a banana shake that changed the shake landscape. Unfortunately, it didn’t last very long before it was gone. The company still has a number of other shakes, but none are quite as unusual as the banana shake.
Ultimate Bacon Cheeseburger from Hardee’s
This wasn’t just a cheeseburger; it was similar to a hoagie and was large enough to require both hands. It was popular in the 90s when it satisfied the kind of hunger that calls for a massive sandwich. With plenty of bacon and two types of cheese, it was advertised as a “man’s” burger.
KFC’s Super Charger Burger
This large sandwich had a long sesame bun that contained two crunchy, spicy strips of chicken, lettuce, sweet mayo, and the special super charger sauce. This sandwich occasionally makes a comeback through revivals of its sauce, but there’s no substitute for the whole sandwich.
Burger King’s Original Onion Rings
Back in the day, Burger King had onion rings made from sliced onions for that perfect crunch inside. But in 2001, they changed to a new formula that was made with onion paste inside a breading. Many people still hanker for those original onion rings and the generously cut sliced onions inside them.
Taco Bell’s Grilled Stuffed Burrito
This was a burrito made with a flour tortilla wrapped around rice, beans, ground beef, a blend of three cheeses, salsa, and pepper jack sauce. The entire burrito was cooked on a grill press panini-style. It was an unusual burrito that hit just the spot with burrito lovers.
McDonald’s McLean
This was a great sandwich for people watching their weight. It used a hamburger patty that was mostly soy protein, so it was friendlier to vegetarians at the time. The lower calories made it popular with many people who counted their daily calories. Now, it’s been gone for man years.
Taco Bell’s XXL Nachos
The thing about nachos is that you can never have too much. Whether you were sharing or just wanted plenty of nachos, this was a large dish that had a lot of food to offer. The restaurant also offered XXL Steak Nachos to mix it up.
Burger King’s Yumbo Sandwich
If you wanted fast food but were tired of burgers, the Yumbo sandwich offered a very different meal. It used a sesame seed hoagie bun and contained black forest ham sliced thin, lettuce, American cheese, and mayo for a tasty sandwich that was outside the fast food norms.
Hardee’s Beyond Thickburger
This was a different take on their Thickburger. Using Beyond meat, plant-based “meat,” this and all of the other Beyond meats were taken off the Burger King menu. The Beyond Thickburger had a charbroiled patty, tomato, lettuce, ketchup, pickles, red onion, mayo, and mustard.
Burger King’s Chillito
In the 90s, this was a chili cheese burrito that had plenty of Chillito sauce mixed in with the ground beef. It may have been a little messy, but it was a great mixture of melted cheese and plenty of spicy chili in a soft flour tortilla.
McDonald’s Chicken McBites
McDonald’s not only had Chicken McBites, but they once carried Fish McBites as well. These were small, popcorn-style bites that were perfect for when you were on the go. The chicken bites used a home-style seasoning that made these a great comfort food for many McDonald’s customers for a while.
