Food allows us to express culinary passions and refined tastes and emits wisps of personalities. An underappreciated topic of conversation relating to food is weird food combinations. What constitutes strange, and what constitutes a standard combo? All combinations had to start somewhere, right? Here is a list of ten combinations others think are weird.

1. Portuguese Sweet Bread and Ketchup
This is my pick because, for some reason, I've always eaten Portuguese sweet bread with ketchup. The sweet bread makes me yearn for a mix of sour with an enhancement of sweetness. So I ditched the butter and opted for the tomato-based condiment. Every time I squeeze out some ketchup to dip the roll in, I receive disgusted looks and raised eyebrows. My retort remains the same: it's like a burger without the patty.
2. Meatballs and Chocolate
Chocolate is one of the most well-known aphrodisiacs, it pairs well with strawberries or wine, and most recently, chocolate-covered bacon broke into mainstream popularity. But this meat pairing calls for cold meatballs drizzled with hot, melted chocolate.
3. Pickles and Oreos
Pickles are a divisive topic. Pickle lovers drink pickle juice and add the unique fermented cucumber taste to pizzas, soft-serve, and chips, but have you ever eaten a pickle with an oreo? Just slap a pickle on a cookie and munch on the sweet and salty delight.
4. Peanut Butter and Pickle Sandwiches
Staying on the pickle track, another "weird" food combination is a peanut butter and pickle sandwich. Instead of peanut butter and jelly, substitute the jam for a pickle the next time you crave a sandwich. The hearty peanut butter complements the sharp pickle taste, creating a delicacy.
5. Peanut Butter and Onion Sandwich
This isn't a meal for anyone looking to impress their dentist, but a popular strange food combination is an onion and peanut butter sandwich. Like the pickle and peanut butter combo, the peanut butter cuts out the bite of the onion, and the onion neutralizes the sweetness of the nut spread.
6. Salad Dressing on Pasta
I've heard someone praise Italian dressing on pasta, I wasn't a fan, but I adore blue cheese on pasta. Specifically blue cheese on cold tri-color rotini pasta. The creamy dressing adds flavor to the noodles and introduces some variety besides traditional tomato sauce. A friend of mine loves to dress their pasta with ranch.
7. Cheerios and Orange Juice
Forget Cheerios and milk. Pour some pulp into your bowl of heart-healthy cereal. Many fans of this pair said they use orange juice instead of milk because they have a lactose allergy.
8. Brownies and Orange Juice
Maybe you don't want to add some orange juice to your cereal. Instead, try to dip a decadent brownie into a refreshing glass of orange juice. Let the tangy juice dance with the rich sweetness of a brownie. That's one strange food combination!
9. Sauerkraut and Salt and Vinegar Chips
If you prefer salty and sour snacks, these may be the perfect ingredients to add to your grocery list. Throw some fermented cabbage on top of your favorite brand of salt and vinegar chips and savor the sour. Another combo that won't dazzle the dentist but will tantalize your tastebuds.
10. Mashed Potatoes and Barbeque Sauce
This is another combo I stand by. I ate vegan barbeque chicken wings and some mashed potatoes for dinner a few years ago. Unbeknownst to me, the barbeque sauce flowed into the mashed potatoes, and I was in for a delightful treat. Something about adding a sweet, spicy sauce to buttery, whipped potatoes work.
