Who wouldn't want this refreshing Watermelon Agua Fresca on a hot day? Agua Fresca simply means fresh water and is popular throughout Mexico. It's usually a blend of fruit, water, lime juice and a bit of sugar. You have to strain it through a fine mesh sieve in order to get the clear quality. This is a super easy way to get your fluids in during the hot summer months and might even help you avoid the dreaded DC (diet coke).
Not to mention this is full of nutrients from the fruit. Watermelon is full of vitamins C and A plus fiber. Drink up people! Watermelon is the ultimate hydrator.
It is super hot here in D.C. and two of my babies are in a six hour per day golf camp. When they get home, they are totally wiped out. Before you judge me, let me say they chose to do this camp. I did not push them. I'm a firm believer in summer is for fun and relaxation but I'm so proud of them for learning to play golf. When they get home today they will have watermelon aqua fresca waiting for them and they can hit the couch and cram as many episodes of shark week in as possible.
This aqua fresca can be adapted to include many different types of fruit. Here's a few of my favorites...
- cucumber, lime
- honeydew, mint
- cantaloupe, basil
- blackberry, mint
I know what you are thinking and I agree. By all means try adding some rum or vodka for the adults but only if it's after 5:00 4:00. Enjoy a nutritious cocktail today. Did I mention it's Shark Week? What better reason to celebrate with a cocktail?
