orange chicken in a cast iron skillet

What is it about oranges and chicken that goes so well together?  I love the way the flavors complement each other in this dish.  Chinese five spice powder goes so well with both the orange and the roasted chicken. It's a cinch to make and will surely become a weeknight family favorite.

Chinese Five Spice Powder is a combination of cinnamon, star anise, cloves, fennel and Szechuan pepper. It easy to find in the store or you can make Mark Bittman's version here. You will be sprinkling this stuff on everything.

    Try it on...

    • ribs
    • pork
    • ham
    • duck
    • turkey
    • roasted carrots
    • chicken soup
    • beef
    • shrimp

    skillet chicken thighs with oranges

You guys know how I feel about chicken thighs.  I know there are a lot of haters out there, but just give them a chance.  I think they'll change your lives...or at least your weekly meal planning.

Thighs are so flavorful and inexpensive, it's a must have on the weekly grocery list.  I like to carefully trim the fat off with my kitchen scissors.  It makes it more palatable for the little people in my house.  Trust me, I get so sick of hearing, "Ew mom, what is this?"

I love chicken thighs Karen! And I think I've finally convinced my husband to come over to the dark side too! (It's taken almost 27 years!!) This chicken sounds so incredibly flavorful! Clementines are my favorite around the holidays. Love Chinese five spice too!

Yay for chicken thighs! I happen to love them as well, but my husband isn't the biggest fan.. yes he is certifiably crazy! 😉 Orange and chicken do go together so well! I'm LOVING that you added 5 spice here!!! Such an underrated spice, if you ask me. This looks just delicious, Karen! Cheers!
