10 Tips for Doing Keto Alone

Published: Dec 19, 2022 Modified: Jan 5, 2023 by Karen Kelly This post may contain affiliate links.

How do you do the keto diet alone? A dad of four recently confessed it is difficult being the only one eating the diet. "It seems like an endless cycle of constantly making two sets of meals. Any tips on prepping and eating keto alone?" Here are the top-voted answers.

    keto diet

    1. Meat Dishes and Low-Carb Veggie Base

One person shared, "Make a meat dish with a low-carb veggie on the side. Everyone eats this. Then make something carby for your family (bread, rice, pasta), and they can have that too. You can make endless types of meat dishes and veggie sides; no need to repeat the same ones repeatedly."

    2. Crockpot Meals for the Win

Another stated, "Crockpot meals are simple and delicious, so if you're not a fan of cooking or don't want to spend much time doing it, keto-friendly crockpot meals for the win."

    3. Meal Plan and Meal Prep

"Your meal plan and meal prep are what is going to save you in this endeavor. Make at least three meals every time you make a meal for yourself," replied one. A second said, "I would meal prep for a whole week, so you don't have to keep cooking every day."

"I used to make egg scrambles, egg muffin cups, chicken and roasted veggies, sandwiches with low-carb wraps, lots of salads, tacos, pizzas with low-carb wraps, lettuce wraps, burgers with no buns, and a side salad. There are tons of meal-prepping videos on YouTube."

    4. Rotisserie Chicken Is Your Friend

"Get a rotisserie chicken every day or so," another answered. "Have your proper portion with a side of steamed microwaved broccoli. The next day put some in a bone broth with a side salad."

"I am a 145 lb female, and I can easily get three dinners out of one chicken with enough left for some chicken salad for lunch. Make a pot of keto chili and eat a bowl of that every other night with some shredded cheddar and a salad. Some nights have a cheeseburger and microwave veggies or salad."

    5. Sip Chicken Broth To Avoid Snacking

Another added, "I shred the meat from a Rotisserie chicken and make stock out of the bones for a broth to sip between meals to avoid snacking." Finally, someone agreed, "I love sipping chicken broth. Especially during winter months."

    6. Have Salad Stuff Prepped

Someone volunteered, "Have salad stuff prepped and in separate containers in the fridge (already washed and chopped lettuce, low carb veggies, cut up olives/yellow peppers), and you can throw a salad together in less than two minutes."

"Once a week, go ahead and cook your meat. Grill and chop chicken, grill and slice a steak, and cook some ground meat. Then throw the meat on your salad or eat it on the side. You can make great taco salads with ground beef. Sometimes I'll heat a little queso and throw it on top."

    7. Salad Kits

Another argued, "Those salad kits they have in the produce department are a godsend if you're not into or don't have time to wash, prep, cut, and shred. You toss the crouton packet and have a salad with a burger patty and some steamed vegetables."

    8. Use Costco

"Costco is my best friend," admitted one. "I can buy lots of prepared proteins (think Chicken burgers, carnitas, sausages) there that I only need to heat up, and also get easy-to-use veggies."

"For example, I get organic broccoli florets and salads pre-washed. The easy-to-use veggies and prepared proteins work for me without having to do full-out recipes all the time."

"Also, Costco has some delicious dips, like Tsaziki, that are keto-friendly and add variety to the veggie train. Another added, "Costco sells packages of frozen bacon-wrapped chicken breasts stuffed with cheese. Pure, delicious keto baby."

    9. Use Pinterest

Someone pleaded, "Please see Pinterest. It is awesome for keto-friendly finds. Look at keto lunches, and you will find many more one-or-two- serving size meals. Make many soups and freeze them in portion-sized freezer bags."

"Freeze flat on a cookie sheet so you may stack them in the freezer. It takes up a LOT less room! Also, you can search keto + whatever type of ethnic food you'd like. For example, searching 'keto Chinese beef and broccoli' will cause bunches of recipes will pop up."

    10. Get an Air Fryer

Finally, someone stated, "Get yourself an air fryer. I was late to the game and just recently bought one. I don't like to cook, and it's just me. Ready for dinner and nothing prepared? Pull a salmon fillet out of the freezer and throw it in the air fryer."

"Chicken wings in the air fryer are simple. Buy some individually packed items. The Costco Brussels sprouts with bacon pieces.Oh, Lord! Sometimes I have a package of those for dinner.

Costco has a vast selection of meats and fish that are individually vacuum-sealed."

"If you can make a last-minute decision and cook it up quickly, it makes life so much easier if you don't want to plan and meal prep."
