Surprising Things You Can Cook in Your Air Fryer

Published: May 18, 2023 Modified: May 18, 2023 by Karen Kelly This post may contain affiliate links.

Are you one of the few remaining skeptics when it comes to air fryers? If so, you probably think air fryers are only good for cooking french fries and chicken nuggets. The truth is that air fryers do more than make crispy fries; they can also cook a few surprising dishes that might make you think twice about this popular kitchen gadget.

    Pizza

You don’t need your oven to make pizza; use your air fryer instead. Simply prepare your favorite pizza dough, top it with the pizza toppings of your choice, and cook it in the air fryer for a few minutes. The result is a crispy and delicious pizza with a fraction of the fat and calories of a traditional deep-fried pizza.

    Vegetables

Air fryers can make your veggies taste even better. Simply cut up your favorite vegetables, spray them with a bit of olive oil, and air fry them for a few minutes.

For example, Brussels sprouts taste exceptionally delicious when cooked at 400°F for 15 minutes. Brussels sprouts are a surprisingly excellent source of protein, vitamin C, and vitamin K. Air fry these nutritional powerhouses, and the result is a delicious and healthy side dish.

    Fish

It’s easy to cook fish without making your home smell like the seafood section of your supermarket – cook it in an air fryer. Choose your favorite fish, sprinkle some seasoning, wrap it in foil, and air fry it for a few minutes. The result is a juicy, flaky, and flavorful fish dish.

    Quesadillas

Air fryers can be used to make crispy quesadillas. Just fill a tortilla with your favorite fillings, fold it in half, and air fry it for a few minutes. The result is a scrumptious and easy quesadilla with minimal oil,  a fraction of the fat, and calories of a traditional deep-fried quesadilla.

    Nuts

If you enjoy roasted nuts, you may want to consider cooking them in an air fryer. Nuts are a great source of B vitamins, protein, and omega-3 fatty acids. So, toss your favorite nuts on a baking sheet, spray them with a bit of olive oil, and air fry them for a few minutes. The result is a warm, tasty, and healthy snack.

    Kebabs

Air fryers can cook kebabs quickly, without the hassle of starting up your grill. Skewer your favorite vegetables or meats, spray them with the oil of your choice, and air fry them for a few minutes until they’re done to your preference.  The result is a delicious and healthy hand-held meal.

    Boiled Eggs

You read that right! You can cook boiled eggs in an air fryer – without the water. To be fair, “boiled eggs” in an air fryer aren’t technically boiled, but the end result is the same.

Traditionally, a boiled egg is cooked in water. In an air fryer, however, you don’t use water. You place eggs in the basket and run the air fryer to the appropriate doneness. Most air fryers can fit 12 eggs or more, which gives you enough boiled eggs for a week.

    Chicken Parmesan

Chicken Parmesan is a classic dish that can be a bit time-consuming to make on the stovetop. However, using an air fryer can cut down on cooking time while still giving you crispy, delicious chicken parmesan.

You can quickly bread your chicken and place it in the air fryer basket. Cook at 375°F for 10-12 minutes or until the chicken is cooked through.

    Donuts

While donuts may seem like a guilty pleasure, you can actually make a healthier version at home using an air fryer. Mix together your donut batter and spoon it into a donut mold that fits inside the air fryer basket.

Cook at 350°F for 6-8 minutes or until the donuts are golden brown. Once cooked, you can dust them with cinnamon sugar or glaze them with your favorite icing for a yummy and guilt-free treat.

Get Creative With Your Air Fryer

Air fryers use hot air technology to cook your food. This hot air technology allows you to create quick, easy, and nutritious dishes. Keep in mind that not only are air fryers a great alternative to frying, but they’re also useful for baking, roasting, and dehydrating. You can even “boil” eggs in them. So, get adventurous with your air fryer and get healthy, too!
